Today I’ve prepared a rather large collection of photos for you viewing pleasure.  And they really are great, aren’t they?  These photos were made by English photographer, Dan Bass.  They belong to a series he calls, “Abandoned.”  It’s a series that he has been working on since the early eighties and he currently has more than 600 images in the collection.  What really captivated me with this series is how the subjects in each of these pictures takes on a sculptural form that seems an indispensable part of their environment.  Through excellent use of light, camera attitude, and composition, Dan has turned images of refuse into Fine Art and I love that.  It’s not everyday you find yourself saying that you would love to hang images of refuse on your wall, but today I think that would be acceptable.

Chosen from our Flikr group.

My living room is small the trick would be picking which ones to hang. Gah, I’d drive myself crazy trying to figure it out.

Yeah no kidding. I would love to have a few of these printed large hanging right in my living room. They’d be overwhelming for guests at first, but it wouldn’t take long before the discussions would begin. Great, great pieces for display and conversation.

I’ve been a fan of dan’s photos for a while. The “Abandoned” set is a coffee table book in waiting. It’s fantastic. Has anyone got the phone number of Mr. Taschen?
